Ashby Lawrence is the 9-year-old daughter of of Fair Hill based trainer James “Chuck” Lawrence and is extremely happy and proud to be a part of The Real Rider Cup! Thoroughbreds have been a part of her life since she was born, and she is very excited to help raise money to support Thoroughbred retirement organizations, and to share an example of just how wonderful and kind Thoroughbreds can be when given the chance.

Tell The Truth was lucky enough to be trained by Graham Motion in his racing days, and was retired and began his second career with Graham’s niece, Mary Motion. While Mary has been traveling and working on her own career, “Fluffy” has been living with Ellie Turnbull. He has been pretty much doing a little bit of everything and doing it all well. Ashby and Ellie spend a lot of time out riding together and as with most young riders, it is always fun to switch mounts.  That is how Ashby came to enjoy and trust Fluffy…jogging and giggling through the beautiful fields of Fair Hill. If only every horse and young lady were that lucky!

Ashby visits the racing barn in Fair Hill, is a part of breeding and foaling mares, and always and most importantly is routing her Dad’s horses down the lane in person and on TV with the dogs barking by her side. Ashby and her brother Chace support all the horses at Lawrence Stables, but both claim that Glorious Empire is their favorite. They  both say they WILL ride him in his retirement. Good luck with that Glorious!

At home Ashby has ponies that she rides and takes care of. She also helps with the retirees that now live in the back yard. She loves to horse show, going to pony camp, trail riding with friends, and forcing dirty little ponies into a bubble bath.

Thoroughbred horses and their well being while racing and after their careers is very important to Ashby and to her whole family. Chuck rode in the Real Rider Cup the first year it started and Ashby said she wanted to raise more money than Dad. So, please please donate to such a wonderful worthy cause. Thoroughbreds make up our family’s world and Ashby wants to give back to them!
