After years in the corporate world, Jill followed her passion into the Thoroughbred racing industry, purchasing her first broodmare in 2009. A colt she bred and sold had a successful racing career, but when he dropped down the claiming ranks, with the assist of others, she claimed him to ensure a safe landing. A decision needed to be made of what to do with the newly claimed horse, so she decided to learn how to ride on the large, fast Thoroughbred, and she eventually landed in a barn that helped her develop as an adult amateur.
Jill will be riding Southern Sunday, aka Ava. She was bred by Jill and Shane’s farm Cerca Trova and competed in their racing racing silks of Lone Cone Racing with Buff Bradley. Southern Sunday is a 2015 foal by Lonhro out of their Storm Cat mare, Driving Rain, and after being retired from racing, Southern Sunday competed in the 2019 RRP in the Ranch Division with Cathy Wieschhoff as her trainer. Jill and Ava currently compete in Eventing.
Jill, her husband, Shane and their two dogs have a small breeding operation in Versailles, KY and Jill manages the farm. Their farm includes two Off the Track Thoroughbreds they bred: one is a pasture pet and the other is Shane’s riding horse. Both Jill and Shane support The Retired Racehorse Project and New Vocations. It is their hope that if you’ve screamed your head off cheering for a Thoroughbred at the track, if you want to jump on a Thoroughbred and ride, or if you just love horses, you will please consider a donation here to benefit the incredibly worthy charities supported by the Real Rider Cup.
