I got involved with horses about 15 years ago when I visited my grandparents neighbors horse farm in Newburgh, NY. There were 4 horses, 3 being OTTBs, who needed some additional care and attention. Everyday before and after school I’d go feed and groom the horses, until one day the owner offered me one of the horses, Gatsby, and to pay for my first package of riding lessons. Gatsby had not had anyone sit on him for about 8 years at this point, and I had never ridden a horse before. We spent years learning the basics, steering, posting, getting the right tracking lead, etc. Before we knew it, we were in the show ring, starting in the WHVPHA pre-children’s hunter jumper. Shortly after, we transitioned into the jumper ring, moving from .65m all the way up to USHJA rated .95m jumper shows at venues like Old Salem Farm, Crosswinds Equestrian center, and HITS Saugerties. After a bad accident about 5 years ago, we decided to shift gears and move into Dressage, where we competed in Dressage For Kids. During this whole process, I was also part of teams such as IEA for middle school and high school and IHSA for college. Unfortunately, Gatsby passed just after college at 21 years old due to a shoulder injury. I was so close to giving up on the equine industry and just moving onto a full-time corporate career. I moved from the Hudson Valley to Upstate, NY to work as a Marketing Manager at Adirondack Basement Systems. It wasn’t long before I started to miss horses, and I ended up discovering North Country Horses, not too far from my new apartment. The team at NCH was so welcoming and faithful in my abilities to join the family. I started working with the New Vocations horses; riding, grooming, tacking, and helping with photo shoots (which was very exciting as it was similar to how my riding career began). I was then asked to be a riding instructor at the farm! I accepted this opportunity instantly, realizing that my childhood dreams were becoming a reality. I have been riding and training with NCH for about 2 years now, and even started leasing and showing one of the beloved thoroughbreds, L’s Imprint. Between L’s Imprint and my barn family, I have regained my confidence and am so excited to see my riding career take off again!
