Clifford Barry

It was Clifford’s grandfather who sparked his interest in working with Thoroughbreds, an interest that
developed into a love for the business that has continued for over 30 years. A native of Ireland, he
treasures his opportunity to work at Godolphin’s prestigious Kildangan Stud under Dr. Michael Osborne,
his mentor who encouraged him to come to America and to work at Pin Oak Stud in 1988. Clifford
worked his way up through the ranks at Pin Oak to become farm manager in 1994 to presently serve as
its General Manager. The farm has celebrated numerous successes under his management that include
Peaks and Valleys (Canadian Horse of the Year & Champion 3yo Male) and Hasten to Add (Canadian
Champion Turf Horse), earning Pin Oak the national and state breeder of the year titles. He is also
honored to have handled the careers of stallions Maria’s Mon (sire of two Kentucky Derby winners),
champion Sky Classic (sire of 6 champions) and Broken Vow (sire of 6 champions). Clifford currently
serves as Director Emeritus of the KTA/KTOB and a Director of the University of Kentucky Gluck Equine
Research Center. In the past, he has served on boards of TOBA and Kentucky Thoroughbred Farm
Manager’s Club, the latter honoring him with the Farm Manager of the Year award in 2007. He is a
current member of the Keeneland Club and Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation.

Clifford is an accomplished rider, having ridden for a national show jumper in Ireland and also winning
the inaugural running of the Blood-Horse Sportsman’s Challenge in 1993 at Lexington’s High Hope
Steeplechase. He currently enjoys riding Pin Oak yearlings during their breaking process. Clifford and his
wife, Elizabeth, have privately owned and bred horses under the name of Brookfield Stud, which has
produced graded stakes Louisiana Derby winner High Limit, Florida Derby winner Soldat and Fountain of
Youth winner Itsaknockout.

Clifford will again be sponsored by Pin Oak Stud and will wear Josephine Abercrombie’s familiar blue and gray silks.
