Clovis Crane

Clovis Crane – In his own words:

I’d make this short and sweet but my wife wouldn’t allow it. So, I’ll give: my version, and then appease her, and other like minds.

My version:

I love my family and horses. Riding horses is what I do now, and it will continue to be what I do, until I physically can’t do it any longer.

Extended version:

Breaking in babies is my absolute passion other than my wife and kids. We break in babies for racing and also buy, develop, and resell Thoroughbreds to pay our bills. We break upwards of 200 annually. There’s been several (9) graded stake horses come through our program and countless stakes winners.

My pastime is buying and selling all kinds of horses with my kids: including OTTBs, Quarter Horses, ponies, mixed breeds, etc. we buy and sell 15-20 of those a year. My hobby is riding rodeo bucking horses. I’ve been All Around National champion (2009), 13x Circuit champion, and 2x International Finalist. I’ve set a lot of rodeo records along the way. Nowadays, I rodeo haphazardly just for giggles on the weekends. I was leading apprentice jockey at Aqueduct, Belmont, Delaware, Meadowlands, and Penn National in 1997-98.

I’m a graduate of Purdue University with a Bachelors Degree in Liberal Arts and minor in Social Studies. I wrestled throughout my high school and collegiate days and was ranked as high as 4th in the country in Division 1. I was a 2-year team captain, and twice voted by my peers as most inspirational wrestler.

I had never jumped horses until my daughter started jumping 5 years ago, I started taking lessons with her. I’ve won the Retired Racehorse Project in the Working Ranch division, and I’ve been a finalist in four different divisions. I was involved in starting the “New Start” program at Penn National for retiring racehorses. My family and I have retrained and re-homed countless ex-racehorses.”

Clovis will compete in the silks of his sponsor, Joseph Besecker.
