Skylar is a 16-year-old student at Unionville High School. She has worked for her mother, Kathy Neilson, for the last few summers and recently started to gallop for Graham Motion. She started off racing small ponies and was leading medium pony and junior horse rider for Delaware Valley Point-to-Point Association. In 2017, Skylar rode Mrs. D.D. Matz’s Venturesome, an OTTB, to a championship at the Devon Fall Classic. Skylar currently has her 2019 National Steeplechase jockey license and has ridden her first season over hurdles and timber. Additionally, she rode on the flat at Delaware Park this summer. This past spring season Skylar was leading lady rider at DVA. She enjoys fox hunting with Mr. Stewart’s Cheshire Hounds and helping her mother out at the races every weekend.
Skylar will be aboard Embarrassed. “Barry” won five races; three over timber, one over hurdles and one on the flat. He is now a fat and happy fox hunter. She will be sponsored by Mrs. Gil Johnston, who sponsored Jack Fisher, winner of the 2018 Real Rider Cup.
